Minority Affairs ministry launches module on UMEED portal to benefit widows, divorced women, orphans

The Ministry of Minority Affairs on Wednesday launched a new module on the UMEED Portal to allow widows, divorced women, and orphans to apply for maintenance support from Waqf-alal-aulad properties. The move is aimed at improving access to financial assistance for vulnerable groups under the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Rules, 2025.

The module uses Aadhaar-based authentication for beneficiary verification and allows online applications and approvals through State and Union Territory Waqf Boards. Payments will be made directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

The ministry said the system is designed to make Waqf administration more transparent, efficient, and people-centric, while reducing delays and administrative hurdles.

The initiative reflects the government’s focus on inclusive development and social justice, particularly for women and children in minority communities. The ministry urged State and UT Waqf Boards and Mutawallis to implement the module widely and raise awareness among eligible beneficiaries.
