Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan completes five years; special event scheduled in New Delhi

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, will host a special event on August 13, at 10:00 AM at KV School No. 2, New Delhi.

The event will celebrate the significant achievements of the anti-drug campaign, engage stakeholders—particularly the youth—to intensify efforts against substance abuse, and reinforce the message of a drug-free society through inspiring stories, performances, and testimonials. It also aims to encourage ongoing community participation and advocacy in the fight against drug dependence.

The NMBA, led by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, addresses the adverse impact of substance use disorder on India’s social fabric. Substance abuse not only affects individuals’ health but also disrupts families and communities. The campaign views addiction as a psycho-social-medical issue requiring prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and continuous awareness.

Since its inception, NMBA has made remarkable progress: over 18.10 crore people sensitized, including 6.02 crore youth and 4.08 crore women; participation from 4.85 lakh educational institutions; and a trained force of over 20,000 Master Volunteers nationwide. The initiative also utilizes technology and social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, alongside a dedicated NMBA mobile app and website, to enhance outreach and data collection.

The campaign has gained support from leading spiritual and social organizations including The Art of Living, Brahma Kumaris, Sant Nirankari Mission, Ram Chandra Mission, ISKCON, and All World Gayatri Parivaar, through formal agreements to conduct mass awareness activities.

The NMBA continues to organize nationwide programs such as ‘Nashe se Azaadi’, ‘Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat’, and interactions with the NCC to engage youth and stakeholders actively.
