Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra finished runner-up in the Diamond League final on Thursday with a best throw of 85.01m on his sixth attempt.
The 27-year-old, who had earlier managed 84.35m and recorded three fouls, moved past Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott, whose best of 84.95m earned him third place.
Germany’s Julian Weber won the event with a personal best and world-leading throw of 91.51m in the second round, having already set the tone with a 91.37m effort in the first. Former world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada was fourth at 82.06m.
Chopra, who claimed gold at the Tokyo Olympics and silver in Paris last year, had qualified for Zurich after winning the Paris Diamond League in June with 88.16m. He also set his personal and national record of 90.25m in Doha in May.
Although he fell short of defending his Diamond League crown, Chopra remains one of the most consistent performers in men’s javelin ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo in October.
