PM GatiShakti push: 7 key rail, road, and textile projects under review to boost connectivity

The Network Planning Group (NPG) on Wednesday reviewed seven infrastructure projects from the railways, roads, logistics, and textiles sectors, aligning them with the PM GatiShakti framework for integrated multimodal connectivity and improved logistics efficiency.

The projects include three new railway lines, a road corridor in Madhya Pradesh, a multi-modal logistics park (MMLP) in Telangana, and two PM MITRA textile parks in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. These initiatives aim to reduce travel time, boost freight movement, and deliver socio-economic benefits to surrounding regions.

In the railway sector, proposals include the construction of third and fourth lines between Bakhtiyarpur and Fatuha in Bihar, a fourth line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu, and a fourth line between Dongargarh and Gondia covering parts of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. These projects will enhance freight capacity, reduce congestion, and benefit industries such as cement, power, steel, agriculture, and manufacturing, while also improving tourism and market access.

For road connectivity, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed widening a 54.2 km section of NH-39 from Rewa to Churhat Tunnel and onwards to Sidhi. The corridor will strengthen links between eastern Madhya Pradesh and the state capital, benefiting cement and coal industries in Singrauli and integrating with multiple national highways.

In logistics, an MMLP at Parkibanda in Telangana’s Medak district is planned to handle 1.47 million metric tonnes of cargo annually from 2028, with capacity rising to nearly 20 million metric tonnes by 2070. The park will have direct access to NH-44 and major rail routes, with future connectivity to the Mumbai and JNPT freight corridors via the Regional Ring Road.

The Ministry of Textiles has proposed two PM MITRA Parks — one in Madhya Pradesh within the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor influence zone, and another in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Both parks will house integrated facilities for textile manufacturing, training, and environmental management, aiming to create employment and enhance India’s global competitiveness in textiles.
