Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the loss of lives caused by a landslide on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister described the incident as “saddening” and extended condolences to the families of those who died. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
“The loss of lives due to a landslide on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The administration is assisting all those affected. My prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being,” he said.
A major tragedy struck the pilgrimage route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district on Tuesday, triggering a landslide that led to the loss of lives and injuries to pilgrims.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has deployed 17 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to carry out large-scale rescue and relief operations. The NDRF, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other central agencies, is actively engaged in assisting the affected pilgrims.
A total of 32 special boats have been airlifted along with the rescue teams to the disaster-hit region. The Home Ministry control room is monitoring the situation round-the-clock.
Rescue teams have rushed to evacuate stranded pilgrims near Adhkwari, while the Yatra remains suspended until further orders.
