Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Fijian counterpart, Sitiveni Rabuka, at the Hyderabad House on Monday and discussed ways to further deepen the long-standing partnership and close ties between the two nations.
In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “Welcoming an important Global South and FIPIC partner. PM Narendra Modi received PM Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji at Hyderabad House for delegation-level talks.”
The Fijian Prime Minister arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, marking first visit to India in his current capacity.
He is accompanied by his spouse, Sulueti Rabuka, along with a high-level delegation that includes Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and senior officials.
Earlier in the day, the Fijian Prime Minister paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat.
The Fijian leader arrived in the capital on Sunday with his spouse Sulueti Rabuka and a high-level delegation, including Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and senior government officials.
During his stay, Rabuka will deliver a lecture titled “Ocean of Peace” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), focusing on regional stability, India–Pacific engagement, and the importance of maritime cooperation.
He is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rabuka’s visit underscores the strengthening of diplomatic ties between India and Fiji, building on President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Suva in August 2024, where she addressed the Fijian Parliament and highlighted the ‘close ties’ and ‘shared values’ between the two nations.
Momentum in bilateral relations has also been reinforced by the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Suva in July 2025.
The talks, led by MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra and Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raijeli Taga, reviewed cooperation in areas including health, education, capacity building, trade and investment, agriculture, renewable energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expand cooperation and maintain regular high-level exchanges.
