Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Members of Parliament (MPs) from Uttarakhand on Wednesday to review the situation in Uttarkashi following the twin cloudbursts in the Dharali region.
MPs Anil Baluni, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Trivendra Singh Rawat, and Ajay Bhatt met the Prime Minister at the Parliament House and briefed him on the current situation and the ongoing rescue operations in the disaster-hit area.
PM Modi advised the MPs to stay in regular contact with people in their constituencies and to make every effort to ensure the safety of those affected by the heavy rains and landslides. He also urged them to provide all possible assistance to the affected population.
Following the meeting, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni posted on X, “The Honourable Prime Minister is deeply pained and distressed by the severe calamity in Uttarkashi. He is personally overseeing the continuous review of relief and rescue operations. He stated that all agencies of the Central Government and the State Government are working with utmost urgency on relief, rescue, and rehabilitation.”
Baluni added that PM Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s full support to all those affected by the disaster, including the residents of Dharali.
He further stated, “The Honourable Prime Minister ji urged all MPs to remain in contact with people in rainfall and landslide-affected areas of their Lok Sabha constituencies and to make every effort to ensure that all necessary help reaches them.”
Tehri Garhwal MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah told IANS, “There is a lot of destruction. It’s a very painful and distressing situation. Heavy rainfall is continuing across the state, and the situation is devastating. Rescue operations are underway amid very difficult conditions.”
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt expressed confidence that the Centre would extend every possible help to the affected region.
“PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are continuously monitoring the situation. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed, and nearly all essential health teams are stationed there. The Army is also engaged in prompt rescue and relief operations,” he told IANS.
