Several parts of Delhi, Haryana, Mumbai, J&K, Rajasthan face spell of heavy rain

Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday morning, leading to waterlogging in multiple areas. Key locations, including Baba Khadak Singh Marg, ITO, and the Yamuna riverfront, witnessed intense showers.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the forecast for Delhi on Monday is for a “generally cloudy sky with moderate rain/thundershowers.” The IMD has also issued a “heavy rain” warning for NCR, Chandigarh, and Haryana for Monday and Tuesday.

In Gurugram, rainfall caused severe waterlogging, disrupting traffic and daily life.

Mumbai too experienced heavy showers, with waterlogging reported in Sion’s Gandhi Market area and along the Eastern Express Highway. While no rainfall warning has been issued for the city today, the IMD has predicted “heavy rainfall” for August 26–27.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Bhaderwah witnessed a spell of incessant rain that brought normal life to a standstill. The continuous downpour led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and increased the risk of landslides along hilly roads. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rivers and landslide-prone areas.

As a precaution, the administration ordered the closure of all government and private schools in Doda district. The Bhaderwah–Bani–Basohli–Pathankot and Bhaderwah–Chamba roads were shut due to landslides, leaving many tourists stranded.

Speaking to ANI, ADC Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Butyal said, “The higher access points, Padri Point, Guldanda Road, have been closed for travel till further orders. An unfortunate incident took place during a machail mata yatra recently. We do not want such an incident to happen again. People’s safety is the first priority. The community hall is for those who are stranded.”

“All our roads are open, except one road. Bhaderwah-Chamba Road has experienced landslides at 2-3 places. The road enforcement agencies have been deployed there, and work is going on. The rest of the roads are open,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Banswara district, heavy rainfall caused the river water level to rise sharply. The Sangameshwar Temple was submerged, with devotees climbing to the temple’s upper levels to perform aarti.
