PM Matru Vandana Yojana

Special registration drive for PM Matru Vandana Yojana extended till August 15

The Ministry of Women and Child Development on Monday announced the extension of the special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) till August 15, as part of an intensified outreach to ensure the enrolment of all eligible pregnant and lactating women across the country.

The ongoing campaign, led by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, includes door-to-door awareness and registration efforts aimed at promoting maternal health, nutritional well-being, and positive attitudes towards the girl child.

Since its launch, the centrally sponsored scheme under Mission Shakti’s sub-scheme Samarthya has provided financial assistance to over 4.05 crore women, disbursing ₹19,028 crore through direct benefit transfers (DBT) till July 31, 2025, the Ministry said in a statement.

PMMVY offers a cash incentive of ₹5,000 in two instalments for the first live birth and ₹6,000 in a single instalment for the second girl child, as per the Mission Shakti guidelines. The objective is to compensate for wage loss during pregnancy, enabling women to take adequate rest before and after childbirth, and to encourage positive health-seeking behaviour.

The scheme is being implemented through field functionaries of States and Union Territories using the PMMVYSoft portal, launched in March 2023. The platform ensures Aadhaar-based authentication via UIDAI and NPCI verification for seamless fund transfers into Aadhaar-seeded bank or post office accounts.

In recent reforms to enhance coverage and service delivery, the portal now includes features like an Integrated Grievance Module, multi-lingual toll-free helpline (14408), Aadhaar-based biometric authentication through Facial Recognition System (FRS), and due-list generation for identifying potential beneficiaries.
