UP Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya conducts aerial survey of flood-hit Prayagraj

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Prayagraj, as rising water levels in the Ganga triggered concern across the region.

After the survey, Maurya said the current flood situation has surpassed the severity of the 2013 floods.

“Today, I did an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Prayagraj. After this, I will also conduct a ground survey by boat. This flood is exceeding the levels of 2013. The Ganga’s water level is continuously rising, which is worrying. The government is doing everything possible to help the affected people. It is our priority to ensure they do not face any difficulty,” the Deputy CM told ANI.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been closely monitoring the situation and issuing timely directives to ensure effective relief efforts. Acting on his instructions, state ministers are visiting affected areas, while Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami reported that floods have impacted 37 tehsils and 402 villages, affecting 84,392 people. Of these, 47,906 have received assistance, and 2,759 animals have been moved to safer locations.

Currently, 17 districts—including Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Chandauli, Jalaun, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Etawah, and Fatehpur—are grappling with floods. Relief and rescue operations are in full swing, with continuous patrolling by NDRF, SDRF, and PAC personnel.

So far, 343 homes have been damaged, and compensation has already been distributed to 327 families. Over 4,015 hectares of land have been affected. Relief supplies are being delivered using 493 boats and motorboats.

To support the affected population, 6,536 food packets and 76,632 lunch packets have been distributed, while 29 community kitchens (langars) have been set up to provide fresh meals. For livestock welfare, 500 quintals of fodder have been supplied.

To prevent waterborne diseases, authorities have distributed 1,29,571 chlorine tablets and 37,089 ORS packets.

A total of 905 flood shelters are operational, housing 11,248 displaced individuals. Additionally, 757 health teams are conducting medical check-ups, and 1,193 flood posts have been established to monitor the evolving situation. Ministers assigned to flood-affected districts will stay overnight to oversee relief measures.
