Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Raksha Bandhan, the festival marking the pious bond between brothers and sisters, at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg (LKM) residence in the national capital on Saturday.
The festive celebration saw many schoolchildren and members of the Brahma Kumaris tying ‘rakhis’ on PM Modi’s wrist and offering him sweets.
The heartwarming occasion featured children expressing their affection for the Prime Minister in various ways — shaking hands, smiling warmly, giving hugs, engaging in conversation, and even planting a peck on his cheek. The Prime Minister, in turn, reciprocated with equal warmth, embracing the children and showering them with blessings.
In pictures shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, a large group of children can be seen gathered around PM Modi, each taking turns to tie *rakhis* on his wrist.
The Brahma Kumaris — the world’s largest spiritual organisation led by women — were a highlight of this year’s celebration at the Prime Minister’s residence. Several members tied the sacred thread, as the Prime Minister vowed to continue working tirelessly for their welfare.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended greetings to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan — the festival celebrating the traditional bond between brothers and sisters.
Taking to his social media handle on X, he wrote: “Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan.”
Raksha Bandhan, observed on the full moon day of the Shravan month, honours the sacred relationship between brothers and sisters. Traditionally, while tying a *rakhi* (sacred thread), the sister prays for her brother’s health, well-being, and prosperity, while the brother pledges to protect her under all circumstances and often showers her with gifts.
