With the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 just 50 days away, ICC chairman Jay Shah on Monday said the tournament arrives at a “defining moment” for the women’s game, offering a chance to push the sport to greater heights.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Shah joined a panel discussion featuring former India captain Mithali Raj, ex-allrounder Yuvraj Singh, current skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, batter Jemimah Rodrigues and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta.
“The return of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 to India comes at a defining moment for the women’s game, setting the stage for a truly world-class tournament that will further elevate the sport’s global stature,” Shah said in an ICC statement. “We remain open to new ideas and are constantly exploring ways to sustain the upward momentum of women’s cricket. Conversations like today’s panel are invaluable in shaping our collective vision.”
The 50-over event, to be held from September 30 to November 2, will feature Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka in a round-robin format. It will be the first women’s global cricket tournament in the subcontinent since India hosted the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup, and the fourth Women’s ODI World Cup in the country after 1978, 1997 and 2013.
The ICC also announced that a Trophy Tour will begin on Monday, covering all host cities along with New Delhi and Mumbai. The trophy will be showcased at iconic landmarks, with fans able to track its journey on a dedicated Instagram channel.
As part of a school legacy programme, the tour will visit several schools in each host city. Select schools will also get a chance to watch World Cup matches, in collaboration with the BCCI and local stakeholders.
