The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has emerged as a key driver of the Government of India’s flagship initiative ‘Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan,’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2025. As of September 23, 2025, AFMS has organized over 60 health camps across the country, benefiting nearly 30,000 women through its network of service hospitals.
The health camps provide specialist consultations, screenings for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as early detection of breast, cervical, and oral cancers. Maternal and child healthcare has been a major focus, with services including antenatal care, nutrition counselling, and immunization.
In addition to clinical services, AFMS has conducted awareness drives on menstrual hygiene, adolescent health sessions, and nutrition programs for school children in collaboration with service headquarters and local administrative authorities. The initiative also features blood donation camps and awareness campaigns on organ and blood donation, reinforcing the message of health as a shared national responsibility.
Officials highlighted that this program represents a unique convergence of civilian and defence healthcare systems, underscoring the government’s vision of “a healthy woman as the cornerstone of a healthy, empowered family and a resilient nation.”
AFMS, guided by its motto “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (May All Be Free from Disease), has mobilized doctors, nurses, and specialists to deliver preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services not just for military personnel and their families, but also for civilians in remote and border areas of Jammu & Kashmir and the North-East, reflecting a true “Whole of Nation” approach.
The initiative is being hailed as a model of integrated women’s and family health outreach and a vital component of Viksit Bharat 2047, showcasing the synergy between military medicine and national health priorities.
