Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday virtually inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode and Amritsar airports. The programme aims to provide seamless and faster immigration clearance for passengers while strengthening security systems.
Shah said that the initiative marks a new phase in enhancing travellers’ convenience in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Speed, Scale and Scope.” He added that the facility will not only ease passenger movement but also serve as a “trust multiplier” in the country’s immigration system.
Shah noted that FTI-TTP was first launched in Delhi in 2024, and later extended to Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Kochi and Ahmedabad airports. With the addition of five more airports today, the facility is now available at 13 airports across India. The programme will also be integrated with upcoming airports at Navi Mumbai and Jewar.
Highlighting its impact, Shah said that around three lakh travellers have already registered on the portal, out of which 2.65 lakh have used the facility. The system enables travellers to complete immigration clearance in just 30 seconds without long queues or manual checks.
Shah said efforts should be directed towards enabling registration at the time of issuing passports and OCI cards, ensuring maximum participation in the programme. This, he added, would eliminate the need for travellers to return later for fingerprinting or additional documentation.
The Minister also underlined India’s growing international air traffic. He said outbound passengers rose from 3.54 crore in 2014 to 6.12 crore in 2024, while foreign arrivals grew from 1.53 crore in 2014 to 2 crore in 2024. Overall international passenger traffic increased by 60 percent over the past decade.
The programme can be accessed through the online portal https://ftittp.mha.gov.in, where applicants can register, upload documents and complete biometric verification. At airports, travellers need to scan their boarding pass and passport at the e-Gates, where biometrics are authenticated before clearance.
