Cabinet approves construction of Mokama-Munger section of high-speed corridor in Bihar

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane greenfield access-controlled Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar. The project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) with a total length of 82.4 km and an outlay of Rs. 4,447.38 crore.

The corridor will enhance connectivity across key regional centres including Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger, extending further to Bhagalpur.

The Munger–Jamalpur–Bhagalpur belt is emerging as an industrial hub, housing a defence ordnance factory, a locomotive workshop, food processing units, and a proposed textile ecosystem centred around Bhagalpuri silk. The project is expected to significantly boost logistics, warehousing, and agro-based industries in the region.

The access-controlled corridor will support vehicular speeds of up to 100 km/h and is expected to reduce travel time between Mokama and Munger to about 1.5 hours, offering faster and safer connectivity for both passenger and freight movement.

The project is estimated to generate nearly 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect employment. Additional jobs are expected to be created through industrial and commercial activities spurred by improved connectivity.
