CSR as catalyst for inclusive growth in Northeast: Scindia

Minister for Communication and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on Wednesday underlined the transformative role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in bridging developmental gaps in the Northeast.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the North East CSR Connect 2025, hosted virtually by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Scindia said, “CSR acts as a catalyst for bridging gaps and building strengths in Northeast India. Infrastructure and basic services, livelihoods and skills, and environment and sustainability are three priority areas in this region.”

The Minister stressed that focused CSR efforts in these areas could position the Northeast as a model of inclusive and sustainable growth.

Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Government of Mizoram, noted that CSR funding can transform communities and create measurable stories of change. He highlighted sports development as a major opportunity, capable of nurturing talent and generating livelihoods. Hmar also announced that the Mizoram government is finalising the launch of Mizoram CSR Connect, an AI-based interactive tool to link companies with verified projects and partners.

Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor, Industry & Commerce, Government of Nagaland, pointed out that CSR investments in skill development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood creation could unlock the region’s vast potential.

R. Mukundan, President Designate, CII, said that North East CSR Connect 2025 is envisioned as a 4–6 year transformative platform to channel CSR funds into healthcare, education, infrastructure, and livelihoods, showcasing impactful projects and building long-term partnerships.

Mukundan added, “CII is creating an impactful CSR vision for the Northeast before pushing it forward to the state-specific level.”
