Durga Puja 2025: Chittaranjan Park Durga Pandal inspired by Satyajit Ray’s ‘Sonar Kella’

While every Durga Puja pandal puja showcases devotion and creativity, the thematic decorations at CR in Delhi have drawn particular attention. The Chittaranjan Park Durga Puja committee here has blended tradition with cinematic brilliance this year, unveiling a Durga Puja pandal inspired by Satyajit Ray’s iconic film ‘Sonar Kella’. The celebration coincides with the committee’s 50th anniversary of constructing grand Durga pandals, making the occasion even more special.

For its pandal in K-Block of the area, the Chittaranjan Park Durga Puja committee has recreated the grandeur of the Jaisalmer Fort, complete with golden-hued walls and architectural elements reminiscent of Jain temples. Inside the pandal, a magnificent idol of Goddess Durga, accompanied by Lord Ganesha, has left visitors in awe, with many pausing to capture the elaborate artistry in photographs.

Reflecting on the theme, committee president Sumit Majumdar said, “We continue our celebrations until Navami, and on Dashami we immerse Maa Durga in our grounds. This year is especially significant as it marks our 50th anniversary of constructing large-scale pandals. Our theme-based pandal takes inspiration from the acclaimed film ‘Sonar Kella’, directed by Satyajit Ray. Designed to resemble the Jaisalmer Fort with a golden finish and featuring intricate temple-style interiors, it has already mesmerised countless devotees.”

Adding to the festivities, the B-Block Durga Puja Samiti in CR Park is also marking its 50th anniversary with a unique “Mitti” or soil-themed pandal, symbolising Mother Earth.

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is one of Hinduism’s most significant festivals. It honours Goddess Durga and her victory over the demon Mahishasura, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. According to Hindu mythology, the goddess descends to her earthly abode during this time to bless her devotees.

In 2025, Durga Puja began on September 28 (Shashthi) and will conclude on October 2 (Vijayadashami).
