In a first-of-its-kind initiative, 25 young Indians are set to travel from the virtual world of a quiz to the icy heights of Siachen – the world’s highest battlefield – for a three-day immersive exposure visit from September 28 to 30. The programme, spearheaded by the Department of Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, aims to offer participants a rare opportunity to experience leadership, resilience, and patriotism at one of India’s most challenging frontiers.
The youth were selected through the National Flag Quiz held on the MY Bharat platform between August 1 and 15, 2025, which saw participation from over 1.1 lakh young people across the country as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
During their stay at the Siachen Base Camp, the participants will interact directly with the Indian Army, gaining first-hand insights into the operational, geographical, and ecological challenges of guarding the borders in extreme conditions. The itinerary includes visits to training areas, paying homage at the war memorial, and meeting soldiers deployed on the glacier. The youth will also explore Leh’s cultural heritage and learn about local entrepreneurship initiatives.
Each participant will carry a handwritten letter addressed to the Army, sharing their vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and expressing gratitude for the Armed Forces’ role in nation-building.
The Department of Youth Affairs said the initiative goes beyond a simple educational tour, seeking to deepen young citizens’ understanding of India’s border regions, foster respect for the Armed Forces, and instill a sense of pride, duty, and national service.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MY Bharat has already connected more than 1.8 crore young people nationwide, promoting the values of Seva-Bhaav (spirit of service) and Kartavya Bodh (sense of duty). Officials said that by taking the journey “from quiz to Siachen,” the government hopes to inspire a generation of young leaders ready to contribute to nation-building.
