With the start of the nine-day Shardiya Navratri festival on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms would come into effect across the country, promising increased savings for common citizens.

Labeling the reductions as “historic,” Shah said that GST rate cuts have been implemented on more than 390 products. “Modi government’s gift of Next-Gen GST reform to all the mothers and sisters of the country on the auspicious occasion of Navratri! Modi’s promise regarding GST reform has been implemented across the country starting today. Historic reductions have been made in taxes on over 390 goods,” Shah posted on X.

The Union Home Minister added that GST reductions across sectors including food, household items, home construction materials, automobiles, agriculture, services, toys, sports, handicrafts, education, medical, health, and insurance will bring unprecedented relief and increase savings for citizens.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the occasion of Navratri and highlighted the renewed energy of the “Swadeshi” mantra. He urged citizens to work collectively for a developed and self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) India. Posting on X, he said, “This time, this auspicious occasion of Navratri is very special. Along with the GST Savings Festival, the mantra of Swadeshi is going to receive a new energy during this period. Let us come together in collective efforts for the fulfilment of the resolve for a developed and self-reliant India.”

Shardiya Navratri is a vibrant Hindu festival spanning nine nights, celebrating the divine feminine energy embodied by Goddess Durga. Observed in the lunar month of Ashwin, the festival is marked by fervent worship, elaborate rituals, and cultural performances. Devotees engage in fasting, singing devotional songs, and participating in traditional dances like Garba and Dandiya, creating a joyful atmosphere.

This year, Navratri will conclude on October 2 with Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra.
