Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda on Friday inaugurated the third edition of the Global Food Regulators Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, underscoring the deep connection between food, health, and mental well-being.
Organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the summit is centered around the theme “Evolving Food Systems – Yatha Annam Tatha Manah (यथा अन्नं तथा मनः)”, which highlights how the quality of food influences not only physical health but also emotional and mental well-being.
In his inaugural address, Nadda said, “Food influences not just physical health but also mental well-being, emotional balance, and the moral fabric of society.” He also noted the growing importance of food safety in a globalized world where lapses can have far-reaching public health and economic consequences.
Calling obesity a pressing health challenge, Nadda highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a 10% reduction in edible oil consumption and collective action to promote healthy lifestyles. He emphasized the role of FSSAI’s Eat Right India movement in raising awareness about nutrition, food safety, and sustainability.
A key highlight of the inaugural session was the launch of FSSAI’s Eat Right Thali book, which celebrates India’s diverse culinary traditions and promotes balanced, nutritious diets. Each thali showcased in the book features local ingredients and traditional cooking methods, encouraging mindful and seasonal eating as a tool to combat lifestyle-related diseases.
The summit has drawn participation from 59 countries, leading global organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), and over 100 Indian delegates. Day one featured technical sessions on topics such as global regulatory harmonization, sustainable food systems, and integrating science and technology into food safety practices.
Commending FSSAI’s efforts, Nadda said that over the years, the regulator has made significant strides in establishing robust food safety standards, upgrading testing infrastructure, and fostering international collaboration, positioning India as a global leader in public health and food safety.
The Global Food Regulators Summit aims to provide a platform for global dialogue, regulatory innovation, and collaborative action to build safe, resilient, and inclusive food systems worldwide.
