Heavy rainfall likely in Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh; southwest monsoon withdraws further: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Kerala on September 26 and 27. Marathwada, central Maharashtra, and Konkan & Goa are also expected to witness heavy showers from September 26 to 30, with extremely heavy rainfall likely over Odisha and Telangana on September 26 and over Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra on September 28.

Very heavy rainfall is expected over Marathwada on September 27 and 28, as well as over central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa on September 27 and 29. Kerala, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka are forecast to receive very heavy rain on September 26 and 27, while Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to be affected on September 26. Northeast India, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, is expected to see heavy rainfall on October 2.

The IMD confirmed that the southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from additional parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as the entire state of Rajasthan and the western Himalayan region, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

During the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while heavy rain was reported from Andaman Islands, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Vidarbha.

IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.

In Delhi-NCR, weather conditions are expected to remain mostly clear to partly cloudy between September 26 and 29.

On Friday, skies will remain mainly clear, with maximum temperatures ranging from 34 to 36°C and northwesterly winds gusting up to 25 kmph in the afternoon.

On September 27, Delhi is likely to see partly cloudy skies with similar temperatures, accompanied by light northeasterly winds.

September 28 is expected to be slightly warmer, with temperatures rising to 35–37°C and minimum temperatures staying 1–2°C above normal. Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast.

By September 29, partly cloudy conditions will persist, with maximum temperatures easing slightly to 33–35°C and southeasterly winds blowing at speeds up to 18 kmph in the afternoon.
