The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Wednesday, with heavy showers expected to persist over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the next two days. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rainfall on September 22.
In the past 24 hours, very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm) was recorded at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Meghalaya, Telangana, and Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) was reported in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Gujarat region, Konkan, central Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is expected to see partly cloudy skies with light rain over the next two days.
On Thursday, the city may receive one or two spells of very light to light rain towards the afternoon and evening, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 33°C and 35°C, which is near normal. Winds will blow from the southeast at speeds of 10-15 kmph in the afternoon, easing in the evening.
On September 19, similar weather conditions are expected with one or two brief spells of light rain at isolated locations. Maximum and minimum temperatures will range between 33-35°C and 23-25°C respectively. Winds will initially blow from the southeast before shifting to the northwest during the afternoon and later from the northeast by night.
For September 20 and 21, the IMD predicts a partly cloudy to mainly clear sky. Day temperatures are expected to rise slightly, reaching 34-36°C, which is 1-2°C above normal. Winds will predominantly be northwesterly with speeds up to 18-25 kmph during the afternoon before slowing down in the evening and night.
