The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Tuesday issued an advisory warning of increased risks of waterlogging, traffic disruption, and localised landslides as heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to lash several districts of the state, including the Greater Guwahati area, over the next 2–3 days.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with emergency response systems placed on high alert.
According to the DIPR Assam, the advisory follows recent incidents of landslides and water blockages triggered by intense rainfall in the past few days. Residents across the state, particularly in Guwahati, have been urged to take precautions and remain vigilant.
Daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents living in low-lying and hillside areas have been urged to remain alert for early signs of flooding or landslides. Those in vulnerable locations are advised to stock up on essential items such as medicines, drinking water, and candles. For assistance, residents can contact ASDMA at 0361-1070 / 1079 / 112 or the DDMA helpline at 0361-1077.
Authorities have also asked the public to follow official weather updates and advisories regularly. ASDMA will issue updates from time to time for public awareness.
