IMD forecasts heavy rainfall across northwest India, Delhi-NCR to see showers

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue over Northwest India during the next three days, with isolated extremely heavy showers (over 21 cm) likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh today. Extremely heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Gujarat on September 4 and 5.

Between September 3 and 6, Konkan & Goa, central Maharashtra, Gujarat region and coastal Karnataka are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places in Gujarat bracing for extremely heavy downpours. Other regions, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during the week.

In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, West Rajasthan and Telangana. Very heavy rainfall occurred in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan, while heavy showers were reported across Jammu, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, central Maharashtra, Gujarat region and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

For Delhi-NCR, the IMD forecast suggests generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers between September 1 and 4.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C, about 4-6°C below normal. From September 2 onwards, maximum temperatures will gradually rise to 30-34°C, while minimums will hover between 21°C and 25°C, staying slightly below normal. Winds will vary from southeast to northeast directions, with speeds ranging between 10-25 kmph.
