The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, eastern India, and the northeast in the coming days, while warning of above-normal night temperatures across northwestern states until October 4.
According to IMD, a well-marked low-pressure area over the Gulf of Kutch and its neighbourhood will bring isolated heavy rain to the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch between September 30 and October 2. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify over eastern states between October 2 and 4, with isolated heavy showers likely in Odisha on October 2, Gangetic West Bengal on October 2 and 3, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 3 and 4, and Bihar between October 3 and 5. Assam and Meghalaya are also expected to receive heavy rainfall on October 3.
Meanwhile, night temperatures across many parts of northwest India are currently 3-5°C above normal and are expected to remain elevated until October 4.
In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) was recorded at isolated locations in the Nicobar Islands, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.
For the Delhi-NCR region, the IMD has predicted cloudy skies with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms until October 2, followed by partly cloudy conditions on October 3.
On Tuesday, the Capital is likely to experience spells of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting up to 50 kmph. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 34-36°C, while the minimum will remain above normal.
The capital city is expected to see light morning drizzle on October 1, with daytime temperatures between 33-35°C. The night will be warmer than average, with an expected temperature range of 25-27°C. Similar conditions will continue on October 2, with light rain and temperatures ranging from 33-35°C during the day to 24-26°C at night.
By October 3, Delhi is forecast to witness partly cloudy skies, with both maximum and minimum temperatures settling 1–2°C above normal.
