IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Telangana, Vidarbha; monsoon withdrawal advances

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana and Vidarbha.

According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Vidarbha on Thursday, Telangana on Thursday and Friday, and coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 26. Odisha is expected to receive intense showers on September 26 and 27, while central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa are likely to witness heavy rain from September 26 to 30. Marathawada will receive significant rainfall on September 27.

The IMD has issued a special warning for extremely heavy rainfall (21 cm or more) over Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra on September 27 and 28. Authorities have advised residents in these areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

In its latest monsoon update, IMD stated that the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Rampur Bushahr, Haridwar, Moradabad, Etawah, Banswara, Valabh, Vidyanagar, and Veraval. Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of the monsoon from the remaining parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and additional areas of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next two days.

During the past 24 hours, Chhattisgarh recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated heavy showers were reported in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Vidarbha, and Tripura.

Meanwhile, the weather in Delhi-NCR is expected to remain largely stable over the next four days. The national capital will see mainly clear skies on September 25 and 26, with maximum temperatures ranging between 33°C and 36°C and northwesterly winds prevailing at speeds of 15–25 kmph. On September 27 and 28, the sky will turn partly cloudy, with temperatures likely to hover between 34°C and 37°C. Light winds from the northeast are expected throughout the period.
