India, Morocco sign MoU to boost defence cooperation

In a step towards deepening strategic ties, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Moroccan counterpart Abdeltif Loudiyi on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation during a bilateral meeting in Rabat.

The MoU establishes a robust institutional framework for collaboration between the two nations and opens avenues for joint exercises, military training, capacity building, and defence industry partnerships.

Both ministers agreed on a comprehensive roadmap for defence cooperation covering counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, peacekeeping operations, military medicine, and expert exchanges. The discussions highlighted the shared resolve to elevate the long-standing India–Morocco friendship into a stronger strategic partnership.

To further boost collaboration, Singh announced the opening of a new Defence Wing at the Embassy of India in Rabat. He showcased India’s maturing defence industry and its cutting-edge capabilities, including drone and counter-drone technologies, assuring Morocco that Indian defence companies are well-placed to meet its operational needs.

The two ministers also emphasised the importance of greater Armed Forces exchanges, training programmes, and opportunities for co-development and co-production of defence equipment. They reaffirmed their commitment to closer coordination on maritime security given the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean and Atlantic corridors.

Rajnath Singh extended an invitation to Minister Loudiyi to visit India for further discussions. The meeting marks a significant milestone in bilateral defence ties and underscores the growing convergence of strategic interests between New Delhi and Rabat.
