Indian sports icons extend heartfelt wishes to PM Modi on 75th birthday

Leading Indian athletes and sports personalities on Wendesday extended warm wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday, reflecting on his encouragement, leadership, and personal support for the nation’s sporting talent.

Badminton star P.V. Sindhu shared a heartfelt note on social media, recalling her memorable interactions with PM Modi. She wrote, “I have met him many times, as an athlete and in a personal capacity. Some of these memories will stay with me forever. The funny thing, almost poetic in its own way, is that when Modiji became Prime Minister, I began winning. It feels as if my journey and his leadership were running side by side, shaping milestones that became defining chapters of my career.” Sindhu also recalled meeting the Prime Minister after her Olympic and world championship successes, as well as during her Padma Bhushan recognition, emphasizing PM Modi’s warmth and guidance.

Tennis ace Sania Mirza expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s support of India’s athletes. “Every interaction that I’ve had the privilege of having with him has been nothing short of inspiring. He’s taken personal interest in each individual’s journey and offered support throughout. I wish him all the very best on this special birthday,” she said.

Chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand praised PM Modi, saying, “For me, Narendra Modi ji is not just a leader of India, but someone who inspires with both heart and mind. He leaves behind lessons of humility, innovation, and warmth.” Anand also shared a personal anecdote: “I still recall the moment when, in the middle of a casual conversation, I mentioned my fondness for Gujarati Thalis to Narendra Modi ji. When he heard this, he immediately smiled and said, ‘Oh, okay, then let’s go.’ Without any formality, he took me to the State Guest House, where we sat down and enjoyed a delicious Gujarati Thali together. He even added warmly, ‘I want to give you the best Thali you can remember.’ For me, it was a humbling and unforgettable gesture.”

Cricket legends also joined in the tributes. Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X, “Wishing Honourable PM Shri @narendramodi ji a very happy 75th birthday. May the year ahead be filled with abundant health, happiness, and strength to lead India forward.”

T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav shared on Instagram, “Sending my best wishes to our honourable Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji.”

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh added, “Wishing Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji a very Happy Birthday. May you continue to lead the nation with great vision and may the year ahead bring continued good health and success.”

Former cricketer Suresh Raina also lauded PM Modi’s leadership, writing, “Under your guidance, India has taken remarkable strides in development, global recognition, and national unity. May your vision continue to guide our nation towards greater progress and prosperity.”

Wrestler Babita Phogat called PM Modi “the world’s most popular leader, the flag-bearer of developed India, and an inspiration for millions,” adding, “You have always guided, inspired, and shown me affection like a father in service of the nation. I pray to God that you live a hundred years, have a long life, and remain always healthy.”
