G20 | Mansukh Mandaviya | World Economic Forum | India unemployment rate | Future of Jobs Report 2025

India’s unemployment rate lowest among G20 nations, says Mansukh Mandaviya citing WEF

India’s unemployment rate stands at just 2 per cent, the lowest among G20 countries, Union Minister for Labour & Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday, citing the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025.

Speaking at the signing of MoUs between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and Mentor Together and Quikr in New Delhi, Dr. Mandaviya said India’s rapid economic growth has been accompanied by employment generation across sectors, supported by enabling government schemes.

The Minister highlighted that the National Career Service (NCS) portal is now evolving as a one-stop solution for all employment-related services. “With 52 lakh registered employers, 5.79 crore job seekers and 7.22 crore vacancies mobilised, the NCS platform currently has more than 44 lakh active vacancies. Partnerships with companies like Amazon and Swiggy have already mobilised nearly five lakh vacancies,” he said.

He underlined that in its third term, the Government has launched five flagship schemes worth ₹2 lakh crore to boost employment and skilling for 4.1 crore youth. A major initiative under this package, the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), has been allocated ₹99,446 crore to incentivise the creation of 3.5 crore jobs in two years, including 1.92 crore opportunities for first-time entrants.

The Minister said that employment generation is being driven not only by government schemes but also by the growth of services, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. He pointed to programmes such as MUDRA and PM SVANidhi that promote entrepreneurship and self-employment.

On the new collaborations, Dr. Mandaviya said they would strengthen opportunities for job seekers. The partnership with Mentor Together aims to provide structured mentoring to two lakh youth in its first year, including one lakh PM-VBRY beneficiaries. The renewed MoU with Quikr will integrate over 1,200 daily job listings across 1,200 cities into the NCS portal, expanding real-time access to employment opportunities, especially for rural and underserved regions.

Minister of State for Labour & Employment Shobha Karandlaje, who was also present at the event, said the NCS has emerged as India’s premier digital platform for job matching, counselling, and skilling. “These partnerships will provide young people with not only employment opportunities but also the right handholding,” she added.
