One terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out on Monday morning in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said.
During the exchange of fire, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained injuries, said the Army.
The encounter followed a specific intelligence input from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, after which a joint search operation was launched by the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF in the area.
In a post on X, the Chinar Corps said, “COP GUDDAR, Kulgam. Based on specific intelligence input by JKP, a joint search operation was launched by Indian Army, J&K Police & Srinagar Sector CRPF in the Guddar forest of Kulgam. Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and, upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire. In the ensuing gunfight, one terrorist was eliminated and a JCO sustained injuries. Operation is in progress.”
The Kashmir Zone Police also confirmed the encounter in a post on X, stating that the gunbattle began on the basis of specific intelligence. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, along with the Army and CRPF, are on the job.
