Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide substantial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to help farmers affected by heavy rains and floods in various parts of the state.
Speaking to reporters after an hour-long meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi, CM Fadnavis said, “I submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister detailing the flood situation in Maharashtra and briefed him about the damage caused due to torrential rains. I requested substantial aid through the NDRF to support affected farmers.”
He added, “The Prime Minister was very positive and assured that the Central government will take action once it receives a proposal from the state. He promised to provide every possible assistance to the Maharashtra government.”
The Chief Minister’s meeting followed a memorandum presented to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday requesting NDRF support for flood-hit farmers.
In addition to flood-related assistance, CM Fadnavis discussed the Maharashtra Defence Corridor with the Prime Minister. “I highlighted the creation of a defence manufacturing ecosystem in Maharashtra, which will boost the economy, generate employment, and strengthen defence production. The corridor can be developed in three regions: Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; Nashik and Dhule; and Nagpur, Wardha, and Amravati,” he said.
The Chief Minister also presented the state government’s plan to develop Gadchiroli as the country’s new steel city, promoting the production of green steel. He added that the Prime Minister responded positively to these proposals.
