Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling malnutrition through Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, flagship initiatives aimed at improving the nutrition of children, adolescent girls, and pregnant women.
In a post on X, PM Modi praised an article written by Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, which detailed the integrated nutrition support programme implemented by the ministry.
“These initiatives represent a major step towards improving the health and nutrition of children, adolescent girls, and pregnant mothers,” PM Modi said. “Millions of beneficiaries are receiving support through the vast network of Anganwadi centres across the country. Union Minister Annpurna Devi ji has explained in detail how this scheme is shaping the future of millions of children.”
The programme seeks to address malnutrition through a strategic shift in nutrition content and delivery, along with the creation of a convergent ecosystem that fosters health, wellness, and immunity.
In her article, Annpurna Devi highlighted the efforts of nearly 14 lakh Anganwadi centres that deliver essential services to about 10 crore beneficiaries nationwide.
“Through Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, the Ministry of Women and Child Development is building an integrated mechanism to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers,” Annpurna Devi said. “At the heart of this campaign is our vast network of Anganwadi centres, nourishing India’s future by focusing on the health and nutrition of over eight crore children, guided by the principle of ‘one meal at a time.’”
Poshan 2.0 also focuses on promoting nutrition awareness, encouraging healthy eating habits, and addressing micronutrient deficiencies as part of a broader effort to boost human capital development and ensure sustainable health and well-being.
