MoSPI revamps digital platforms; AI push for India’s official statistical ecosystem

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday unveiled a set of major digital transformation products at the 29th Conference of Central and State Statistical Organisations (CoCSSO), underlining efforts to build a transparent, standardized and AI-ready statistical ecosystem.

The ministry presented its revamped website, the National Metadata Structure (NMDS) Portal, the PAIMANA Portal and pilot applications of artificial intelligence in official statistics as the cornerstones of this shift.

The redesigned MoSPI website (mospi.gov.in) offers intuitive navigation, advanced search tools, an AI-based multilingual chatbot and cloud-first architecture, aimed at providing faster and easier access to statistical resources for policymakers, researchers and citizens.

The ministry also announced that its GoI Stats app is now available on the iOS platform. The Android version of the app, launched earlier this year on Statistics Day, has already recorded more than 10,000 downloads.

MoSPI’s Infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division launched the PAIMANA (Project Assessment Infrastructure Monitoring and Analytics for Nation-building) portal, replacing the earlier OCMS. The platform, accessible at ipm.mospi.gov.in, will monitor projects worth Rs 150 crore and above across sectors such as roads, railways, petroleum, urban development, coal, shipping and civil aviation. The portal features analytics-driven reports, customizable dashboards and a mobile app for real-time access.

The National Metadata Structure (NMDS) portal (nmds.mospi.gov.in) was described as a major step in strengthening data governance. The portal serves as a centralized repository of standardized metadata for all data-producing agencies and comes with features such as version control, audit trails, advanced filtering, export options and API integration. By setting nationwide metadata standards, it aims to improve interoperability, ensure consistency across statistical systems and create a foundation for AI-ready, machine-readable datasets.

In addition, the ministry demonstrated alpha versions of AI-based applications for data collection, processing and dissemination. Backed by MoSPI’s Data Innovation Lab and Research and Analysis Division, these pilot projects aim to improve data quality, accelerate processing and provide predictive insights for policymaking.
