Operation Sindoor on the games field: PM Modi congratulates India on Asia Cup triumph

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded India’s Asia Cup victory over Pakistan. He linked the India-Pakistan final to ‘Operation Sindoor’ and said the outcome remained the same, with India emerging victorious.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote: “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”

President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations, saying on X: “My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the Asia Cup cricket tournament. The team did not lose any match in the tournament, marking its dominance in the game. I wish Team India sustained glory in the future.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated Team India. Celebrating the victory, Shah wrote on X: “A phenomenal victory. The fierce energy of our boys blew up the rivals again. Bharat is destined to win no matter which field.”

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared his wishes on X: “Congrats to Team India on winning the Asia Cup. New India delivers.”

India clinched their ninth Asia Cup title with a five-wicket win in the 2025 final, overcoming Pakistan in a tense contest that swung back and forth. Tilak Varma played a pivotal role in orchestrating the chase, while the lower middle order ensured a composed finish in the high-pressure clash.

The win came amid strained ties between the two nations, with memories of the Pahalgam attack and India’s subsequent response through Operation Sindoor still fresh.

India faced Pakistan three times in the tournament and came out on top on all three occasions. While the group stage and Super Four matches were one-sided, the final tested India’s resolve before they ultimately crossed the line in the final over.

With this win, India extended their record as the most successful side in Asia Cup history, lifting the title for the ninth time.
