PM Modi holds joint call with EU leaders, pushes for early India-EU FTA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a joint telephone call with President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday, underlining the strong and close ties between India and the European Union.

During the call, the leaders welcomed progress in bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including trade, technology, investment, innovation, sustainability, defence, security, and supply chain resilience. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to conclude the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) at the earliest.

The discussion also built on the historic visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February, with PM Modi inviting both leaders to India for the next India-EU Summit.

In addition to bilateral matters, the leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues, including efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution and early restoration of stability in the region.

The leaders agreed to maintain close communication to further strengthen the India-EU Strategic Partnership, focusing on shared values and a rules-based global order.
