PM Modi launches ‘Gyan Bharatam Portal’ to boost manuscript digitisation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the ‘Gyan Bharatam Portal’, a dedicated digital platform for manuscript digitisation, preservation, and public access.

The Prime Minister launched the portal at the International Conference on Gyan Bharatam, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He also visited an exhibition organised by the Union Ministry of Culture on the occasion.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the three-day conference on ‘Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage’ is being organised from September 11 to 13. It has brought together over 1,100 participants, including scholars, experts, institutions, and cultural practitioners from India and abroad, providing a platform for discussion on preservation and digitisation of manuscripts.

The Gyan Bharatam initiative has been developed as a national platform to identify, document, conserve, and digitise manuscripts across the country. It also aims to create a National Digital Repository and enhance public access through AI-driven tools and digital platforms.

The initiative will include research, translation, and publication of rare manuscripts, capacity building for scholars and conservators, and collaborative programmes to involve the public. It will also focus on international partnerships and integration of manuscript knowledge into education, aligning with the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
