Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked the 11th anniversary of the Make in India initiative, describing it as a key driver of the country’s economic growth and entrepreneurial spirit.
In a post on X, PM Modi recalled the launch of the programme in 2014 and said it had strengthened innovation and job creation across sectors while laying the foundation for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
“11 years ago on this day, the Make in India initiative was launched with a vision to add momentum to India’s growth and tap into our nation’s entrepreneurial potential. It is gladdening to see how #11YearsOfMakeInIndia has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” the Prime Minister wrote.
He added that the initiative had given “an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact”.
Under PM Modi’s leadership, Make in India initiative has brought major reforms, investments, and policies that turned the country into a growing manufacturing hub, boosting both industry and exports.
Launched in September 2014, the Make in India programme was aimed at encouraging domestic manufacturing and positioning India as a global hub for production and innovation.
Between 2014 and 2024, India received USD 667 billion in foreign direct investment, accounting for nearly two-thirds of all inflows since liberalisation. The country also improved its global ease of doing business ranking, moving from 142 in 2014 to 63 in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2020.
