PM Modi meets global semiconductor CEOs, says India emerging as innovation hub

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with top global semiconductor CEOs at SEMICON India 2025 and said industry leaders have expressed strong confidence in India’s potential to become a hub for innovation and manufacturing.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Their confidence in India’s potential is evident and they are betting big on India as a global hub for semiconductor innovation and manufacturing. I talked about India’s relentless reform journey in this sector, which includes building robust infrastructure and emphasis on skilling as well as innovation.”

PM Modi attended the second day of the fourth edition of SEMICON India 2025 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre). The event was inaugurated on Tuesday, where he underlined that the world trusts India and is ready to partner in building its semiconductor future.

The Prime Minister described semiconductors as the “digital diamonds” of the 21st century, noting that while oil shaped the last century, chips now hold the power to drive global progress. He said the global semiconductor market, already valued at $600 billion, is expected to exceed $1 trillion in the coming years, and India is poised to capture a substantial share of this market.

Highlighting the progress made, he recalled the launch of the Semicon India programme in 2021, followed by approvals for the country’s first semiconductor plant in 2023 and several more in 2024. In 2025, five additional projects were cleared, bringing the total to ten ongoing projects with investments exceeding $18 billion (₹1.5 lakh crore).

PM Modi said speed is key in the semiconductor sector and stressed that the government is reducing paperwork and approvals through the National Single Window System, enabling faster “file to factory” transitions. He also pointed to the development of semiconductor parks under a plug-and-play infrastructure model, offering land, power, connectivity, and skilled manpower.

He added that India’s comprehensive support – from PLI incentives to Design Linked Grants – is drawing global investors and strengthening the country’s position as a trusted semiconductor hub.
