‘GST utsav’ begins with Navratri, PM Modi urges citizens to embrace savings and devotion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday marked the beginning of Navratri 2025 with a spiritual tribute and festive message, linking the occasion with the government’s newly launched GST savings initiative.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “This Navratri holds special significance. Along with the GST Savings Festival, the mantra of self-reliance will gain new energy during this period. Let us come together in collective efforts to fulfil the resolve of a developed and self-reliant India.”

The Prime Minister on Sunday announced the launch of a nationwide “GST Utsav” from the first day of Navratri, describing it as a festival of savings for Indian citizens. The initiative coincides with the implementation of new GST rates across the country. Addressing the nation, PM Modi said that from September 22, citizens will be able to purchase a wide range of products at lower prices. “Next Gen GST reforms being implemented from tomorrow—it is like a GST saving festival. From tomorrow, you will be able to buy your favourite items with ease,” he said.

Alongside the GST announcement, PM Modi shared a soulful rendition of the bhajan “Ya Devi Sarv Bhuteshu” by late Pandit Jasraj, highlighting Navratri as a festival of devotion. “Navratri is about pure devotion. So many people have encapsulated this devotion through music. Sharing one such soulful rendition by Pandit Jasraj ji,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister also invited devotees to share their own bhajans or favourite devotional songs, adding that he would “be posting some of them in the coming days.”

Extending greetings to the nation, PM Modi said, “Heartfelt Navratri greetings to all of you. May this sacred festival, filled with devotion, courage, restraint, and determination, bring new strength and new faith into everyone’s life. Jai Mata Di!”

He further noted that the first day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Shailputri. “Today is a special day for the worship and rituals of Maa Shailputri. My wish is that, with the Mata’s affection and blessings, everyone’s life may be filled with good fortune and good health,” he added.

Sharadiya Navratri, observed in the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin, is a vibrant nine-night festival dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms, each symbolising strength, compassion, and wisdom. The festival is celebrated with fasting, devotional singing, and traditional dances such as Garba and Dandiya, creating a festive atmosphere across the country.

This year, Navratri will conclude on October 2 with Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra.
