PM Modi stresses role of startups, IP creation in semiconductor future

On the second day of Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the exhibition along with Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada. The Prime Minister underscored the crucial role of startups in advancing India’s semiconductor journey and stressed the importance of creating indigenous intellectual property (IP).

Startups supported under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme presented their roadmaps for indigenously designed chips across key sectors, including broadband, surveillance, smart energy meters, motor control, and space applications. So far, 23 chip design projects have been sanctioned under the scheme, with 72 companies gaining access to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.

One of the major announcements came from InCore Semiconductors, which launched a RISC-V based System-on-Chip (SoC) Generator Platform. The innovation reduces chip design timelines from months to minutes, lowering costs and risks. The platform supports diverse processor families—Azurite for ultra-low power use, Calcite for IoT and embedded applications, and Dolomite for high-performance networking and edge AI.

In the networking sector, Aheesa Digital Innovations introduced the Vihaan SoC, built around the C-DAC VEGA processor, with plans to make it available for OEMs and ODMs in early 2026.

For surveillance, startups such as 3rdiTech, Netrasemi, BigEndian Semiconductors, and Mindgrove Technologies unveiled SoCs for CCTV applications. Collectively, they have raised more than ₹300 crore and plan to roll out production-grade solutions by 2026.

MosChip Technologies showcased its indigenous smart energy meter chip Vidyut, while Vervesemi announced plans for advanced SoCs for motor control, EVs, drones, and ISRO applications by 2027. MBit Wireless also presented a 4G-LTE modem chipset, already certified and undergoing field trials with Indian telecom companies.
