PM Modi to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 60,000 crore in Odisha on Sept 27

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on September 27 to launch and dedicate multiple development projects worth over ₹60,000 crore, spanning telecommunications, railways, higher education, healthcare, skill development, and rural housing. The Prime Minister will address a public gathering in Jharsuguda following the inaugurations.

In a major boost to digital connectivity, PM Modi will commission over 97,500 solar-powered 4G mobile towers built with indigenous technology at a cost of ₹37,000 crore. This includes more than 92,600 BSNL 4G sites and 18,900 sites funded under the Digital Bharat Nidhi to connect around 26,700 remote and border villages, benefitting over 20 lakh new subscribers. The initiative represents India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites.

Railway infrastructure will also receive a significant upgrade with the foundation stone for the Sambalpur-Sarla rail flyover, dedication of the doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda and Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur lines, and the flagging off of the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Udhna (Surat). These projects are expected to boost freight and passenger movement, spur industrial growth, and strengthen regional trade links.

In the education sector, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the expansion of eight IITs – Tirupati, Palakkad, Bhilai, Jammu, Dharwad, Jodhpur, Patna, and Indore – at an investment of ₹11,000 crore. This will add capacity for 10,000 students over four years and set up eight new research parks to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem. The Prime Minister will also launch the MERITE scheme to improve quality, equity, and research in 275 state engineering and polytechnic institutions.

Odisha’s skill development infrastructure will see the launch of Phase II of the Odisha Skill Development Project, which includes World Skill Centres in Sambalpur and Berhampur and the upgradation of 30 ITIs into Centres of Excellence and Utkarsh ITIs.

Healthcare in the state will receive a major boost with the upgradation of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into world-class super-speciality hospitals, complete with trauma units, dental colleges, maternal and child health facilities, and expanded bed capacity.

In a significant welfare measure, PM Modi will distribute sanction orders to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, providing pucca houses and financial assistance to vulnerable families, including widows, persons with disabilities, and victims of natural calamities.

The visit underscores the government’s focus on infrastructure growth, social welfare, and inclusive development, with projects expected to generate employment, improve connectivity, and strengthen Odisha’s economy.
