Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed US President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive peace plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”
The announcement follows President Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where Trump secured Netanyahu’s backing for the U.S.-sponsored peace proposal to end a nearly two-year-old war in Gaza.
At a joint press conference at the White House, Trump said that the two sides were “beyond very close” to achieving a peace deal. He warned Hamas that Israel would have full U.S. support to take necessary action if the group rejected the plan.
The White House also released a 20-point document outlining key measures, including an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas disarmament, and the establishment of a transitional government under international supervision.
While Netanyahu expressed his support for the proposal, questions remain over Hamas’s response and the role of the Palestinian Authority in post-war governance. Netanyahu has consistently opposed the creation of a Palestinian State, which continues to be a point of contention.
President Trump thanked Prime Minister Netanyahu for backing the initiative, adding that cooperation between the two sides could bring an end to decades of conflict in the region.
