PM Modi wishes CP Radhakrishnan a successful tenure as Vice-President of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the oath-taking ceremony of Thiru CP Radhakrishnan as the 17th Vice-President of India. The PM extended his best wishes to Radhakrishnan for a successful tenure dedicated to the service of the people.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said:

“Attended the oath-taking ceremony of Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. A dedicated public servant, he has devoted his life to nation-building, social service and strengthening democratic values. Wishing him a successful Vice Presidential tenure, dedicated to the service of the people.”

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Radhakrishnan at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The formal ceremony was attended by senior political leaders and dignitaries from across the national political spectrum.

Radhakrishnan, the NDA nominee, was elected earlier this week, securing 452 votes against Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who polled 300 votes. The election was necessitated by the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who cited health reasons.

Ahead of the swearing-in, Radhakrishnan stepped down as Governor of Maharashtra on Thursday. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has been given additional charge of Maharashtra, Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.

While C.P. Radhakrishnan is the 15th individual to hold the office, he is counted as the 17th Vice President in terms of the position.
