President Murmu urges EEPC to help make India a leading innovation economy

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday called on the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) to work with determination to help position India as a leading innovation economy. She was addressing the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of EEPC India in New Delhi.

The President said that India, once known as a global centre of trade and knowledge, must regain that status. “EEPC, being an important stakeholder in the economic sector, should take this resolution with great determination,” she remarked.

Pointing to India’s growing presence in global markets, Murmu noted that engineering exports had risen from USD 70 billion to over USD 115 billion in the last decade, despite disruptions in international trade. She credited EEPC for its contribution in this growth.

She described EEPC as a vital link between Indian producers and international markets, and urged the council to further strengthen India’s role in global value chains.

Murmu said that while global trade challenges persist, India’s strengths in high-quality, low-cost engineering products and services, along with the presence of global capability centres, provide a strong foundation for growth.

Calling for greater support for innovation, the President urged EEPC stakeholders to create the right ecosystem and incentives to enable India’s talent. “Innovation economies are the most competitive and prosperous economies in the world. Stakeholders should pledge to make India a leading innovation economy,” she said.
