Jaisalmer District Collector Pratap Singh on Monday ordered the closure of all government and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centres, in view of the heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The order, applicable to students from Classes 1 to 12, was issued to ensure the safety of children as the district braces for heavy downpours over the next 24 hours. While students have been granted a holiday, all academic and non-academic staff of schools and Anganwadi centres have been instructed to report to duty as per their regular schedules.
The district administration has warned that any school or Anganwadi centre found violating the directive will face strict disciplinary action under the rules. Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable areas, and adhere to advisories issued from time to time.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has also disrupted life in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, where canals overflowed and several roads were submerged. According to District Magistrate Devender Kumar, Dausa recorded 177 mm of rainfall in a single day, leading to the overflowing of the Haripura dam. Relief teams have been deployed, and senior officials are monitoring the situation on the ground.
“The Haripura dam is overflowing, and relief teams are on alert. Administrative officials are on the spot. We urge residents to report any incident immediately to the control room,” the DM said.
Rajasthan cabinet minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore visited flood-affected areas in Dausa on Sunday to assess the situation. He assured residents that the government was fully committed to providing relief and announced that Rs 16 crore had been sanctioned for the repair of nearly 650 schools and 16 dams damaged by the floods.
“The government is fully aware, and the administration is active on the ground. Crops have suffered severe damage, but compensation will be provided,” Rathore told reporters.
