The Rajasthan Government has established a special cell in the Rajasthan Police Headquarters to assist Indian citizens stranded in Nepal following violent protests that led to the resignation of Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The initiative, directed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, includes 24×7 helpline numbers 0141-2740832 and 0141-2741807. A WhatsApp number, 9784942702, has also been provided for assistance.
CM Sharma described the violence in Nepal as “heart-wrenching” and expressed concern for the safety of Rajasthani citizens living there. He has contacted the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to inquire about the ongoing situation. The Chief Minister urged all Rajasthani expatriates to stay in touch with the embassy and follow advisories issued by the Government of India.
The unrest in Nepal escalated after the government banned certain social media apps on September 8, triggering nationwide protests led by Gen Z activists. Demonstrators demanded greater government accountability, an end to alleged institutionalised corruption, and transparency in decision-making.
The protests turned violent, with demonstrators torching the Parliament Building, the President’s office, and other government buildings. At least 19 people have been reported killed and 500 injured in clashes with security forces. The Nepalese Army imposed prohibitory orders and extended curfews across several cities, including Kathmandu, to restore order.
