Truly overwhelmed: PM Modi thanks citizens, global leaders on birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed heartfelt gratitude to citizens across India and leaders from around the world for their wishes, prayers, and messages on his 75th birthday.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he was “truly overwhelmed” by the affection that poured in from within the country and overseas.

“This affection strengthens and inspires me. I thank the people for the same. The innumerable wishes and the faith you have reposed in me are a source of great strength. I see them as a blessing not just for me, but for the work we are doing together to build a better India,” the Prime Minister wrote.

He added that the goodwill reflected the “inherent goodness of the people of India” and lauded the social service initiatives organised nationwide to mark the occasion. These, he said, sustain society and inspire hope to overcome challenges with positivity.

“I have not been able to reply to the wishes individually, but I will say again—this affection has touched my heart deeply. I pray for everyone’s good health and well-being,” he noted.

Across India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked the day with a series of welfare drives under the ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ campaign. Activities included blood donation camps, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, health check-ups, distribution of assistive devices to the differently abled, and food distribution among the underprivileged.

Special prayers and rituals were also organised in temples, mosques, gurudwaras, and churches, while BJP leaders in several states flagged off yatras to commemorate the day.

Leaders from across the globe also extended greetings to PM Modi. Among them were Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, UAE President Mohamed Bin Zayed, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, EU President Ursula von der Leyen, Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and Guyana President Dr Irfaan Ali.
