Amit Shah approves Rs. 707.97 crore additional flood relief for Assam and Gujarat

In a move to support States affected by natural calamities in 2024, a High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has approved Rs. 707.97 crore as additional Central assistance to Assam and Gujarat.

The funding, sourced from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), is aimed at addressing losses caused by floods and landslides. Out of the total, Rs. 313.69 crore will be allocated to Assam and Rs. 394.28 crore to Gujarat. The assistance is subject to adjustment against 50% of the opening balance in the respective State Disaster Response Funds (SDRF).

In addition to the flood relief, the HLC has approved Rs. 903.67 crore under NDRF for the expansion and modernization of fire services in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The Central assistance for this initiative will amount to Rs. 676.33 crore. Specifically, Haryana will receive Rs. 117.19 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs. 397.54 crore, and Rajasthan Rs. 388.94 crore.

This additional assistance is over and above the funds already released to States under SDRF and NDRF. In the current financial year 2025-26, the Centre has released Rs. 13,603.20 crore to 27 States under SDRF and Rs. 2,024.04 crore to 12 States under NDRF. Further, Rs. 4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been released to 21 States, along with Rs. 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine States.
