Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for the Goa government’s ‘Mhaje Ghar Yojana’ and several development projects worth ₹2,452 crore. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and other dignitaries were present at the event held in Goa.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said the ‘Mhaje Ghar Yojana’ was not just another government initiative but a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reform-driven and citizen-centric governance model. The scheme grants ownership rights to thousands of Goans whose properties were previously caught in multiple legal disputes. Shah praised Chief Minister Sawant’s leadership for simplifying 11 different legal provisions into a single law, benefiting nearly half the state’s population and ensuring time-bound permissions for house repairs, along with guaranteed water and electricity supply.
The Home Minister highlighted that since 2014, PM Modi has inspired state governments to legally resolve people’s longstanding issues, helping over 60 crore poor citizens gain access to essential amenities. He said that through the Mhaje Ghar Yojana alone, 10 lakh citizens have received home ownership rights, marking a major milestone in Goa’s development.
Shah also pointed out Goa’s rapid economic growth, noting that the state’s per capita income has risen from ₹1,12,073 in 2014 to ₹3,57,000 in 2023–24. He said the Modi government has ensured political inclusion for tribal communities by passing legislation on August 5, 2025, providing them representation in the Legislative Assembly for the first time.
Reiterating the goal of making India a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047, Shah said Goa is on course to become the first fully developed state in the country, given the pace of its reforms and infrastructure growth.
The Home Minister also underlined the Modi government’s recent reduction of GST on 395 essential items—announced on the first day of Navratri – calling it a major relief for households, especially women. He urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi products this Diwali and contribute to the vision of an economically self-reliant India.
Highlighting tax reforms, Shah said the Modi government has raised the income tax exemption limit from ₹2.5 lakh in 2014 to ₹12 lakh, empowering women and strengthening household purchasing power. Concluding his address, Shah described Goa as “the bindiya on the forehead of Bharat Mata,” and said its progress would serve as a model for other states.
