Fit India Mission is organising Freedom Run 6.0 nationwide on Thursday with the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium leading the way to promote cleanliness and zero litter habit through plogging. The unique initiative will witness individuals from all age groups. Fit India Freedom Run 6.0 aims to encourage hygienic behaviour among Indian citizens.
With the tag line, ‘Swacchhta se Swasthya ki or’ meaning ‘On the way to good health through cleanliness’, the Fit India Freedom Run will be graced by Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), as the chief guest. Plog man of India, Ripu Daman, and Mayank Srivastava, Deputy Director General, Sports Authority of India (SAI) will also participate in the event as special guests.
Beginning on October 2, also celebrated as the birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, the month-long cleanliness drive will culminate on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on October 31.
Talking about the initiative, Ripu Daman said: “It gives me immense pleasure to be part of Fit India Freedom Run. Being the second largest country in terms of population, Indians need to indulge in all activities that promote cleanliness and hygiene, the ticket to good health. Littering is one of the bad habits we need to curb among our population and plogging is an activity which combines running along with picking up litter. So, I would urge every citizen to be part of this movement.”
The ‘Fit India Freedom Run 6.0’ is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in collaboration with Fitspire, RED FM and Rapido. The plogging drive is organised simultaneously in capitals of all States and Union Territories besides SAI Regional Centres across various age groups.
